Whether you want to shine in the spotlight or make it all happen behind the scenes, there’s something for everyone in our Speech and Drama programmes at Taranaki Dio.
Our whole-school productions are interchanged biannually with Stage Challenge. These are ideal opportunities for students who enjoy participating in performance theatre to work alongside those students interested in the technology of performance and all things backstage.
All students keen to be involved are warmly welcome. Auditions are held for lead parts and all Year 9-13 students who wish to be on stage are included. Lighting and sound, set and props design and construction, make-up, costume, backstage assistance, and publicity and promotions are also areas open for girls to explore new opportunities.
Students who undertake Drama as a subject will also be able to enter a variety of theatre performances which include Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival and the annual Year 9 Nativity Play.
Girls may take Speech and Drama lessons through an itinerant teacher and many of our girls also enter national and international examinations with excellent results and the resulting growth in confidence as a public speaker. Whole-school speech competitions are held annually.
